BRYN MAWR, PA — Essential Utilities Inc. (NYSE: WTRG) has announced more than $770,000 in total contributions to the United Way during its 2024-2025 workplace campaign. This impressive achievement results from employee pledges and a matching gift from the Essential Foundation, demonstrating a strong culture of generosity across the company’s nine-state footprint.
Approximately 2,000 employees from Essential’s water and gas segments, Aqua and Peoples Natural Gas, participated in this year’s campaign, which allows donors to support causes meaningful to them through the United Way network. Contributions went toward initiatives such as education, housing, hunger relief, health, and animal welfare. The company match will amplify these efforts, directed to the same organizations selected by employees.
Christopher Franklin, Chairman and CEO of Essential Utilities, highlighted the significance of the campaign. “The generosity shown by our Essential employees is a testament to our team’s connection to the communities we serve,” Franklin said. “Our commitment to improving the lives of our neighbors goes far beyond providing earth’s most essential resources. This partnership with the United Way is a shining example of the generous spirit of the people of Essential Utilities, and I’m proud to be a part of this amazing effort that positively impacts the lives of so many in need of a helping hand.”
Notably, Aqua Illinois was recognized among the top five charitable campaigns by the United Way of Kankakee and Iroquois Counties, while participation rates soared past 80% among Aqua Ohio and Aqua Indiana employees. On average, 61% of employees across the company contributed to the campaign.
The campaign’s success reinforced Essential’s leadership role in corporate activism within its region. Bill Golderer, President and CEO of the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey, praised the company’s dedication. “Essential Utilities is a leader without peer in our region for the example they set,” Golderer said. “There is clearly a culture of generosity, commitment and service that defines what it means to be a part of Essential’s team. On behalf of the thousands of neighbors in our community who strive every day for a better future, we salute Essential’s commitment to our United Way’s mission.”
Since Aqua and Peoples came together under Essential Utilities in 2020, the company has raised over $3.9 million for the United Way, further cementing its commitment to community support and impactful philanthropy.
