LANCASTER, PA — Amos Ebersol, a 59-year-old resident of Ephrata, Pennsylvania, has waived his preliminary hearing last Friday on a series of charges that include rape, incest, aggravated indecent assault, unlawful contact with a minor, and corruption of minors. The hearing, presided over by Magisterial District Judge Torrey Landis, sets the stage for Ebersol to face these allegations in Lancaster County Court.
The charges were formally brought against Ebersol on March 20, 2024, by the Ephrata Borough Police Department, following an investigation that began on October 18, 2022. The inquiry was initiated after a report from Children and Youth Services indicated that Ebersol had inappropriately touched a juvenile. Subsequent police interviews with the reported victim and three additional individuals revealed allegations of repeated abuse by Ebersol.
Scheduled for arraignment on May 10, Ebersol’s case will be prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Steve Sess, with Ephrata Borough Police Detective Beth Rivera having filed the charges.
All defendants, including Ebersol, are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. This principle ensures fairness in the legal process, allowing for a thorough examination of the evidence and allegations presented in court.
