PHILADELPHIA, PA — Enviri Corporation (NYSE: NVRI) has unveiled plans for a cutting-edge zero-waste aluminum salt slag recycling facility in collaboration with its subsidiary, ALTEK, REAL ALLOY, and the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations. The facility, located in Wabash, Indiana, will utilize ALTEK’s AluSalt™ technology to advance sustainable practices in the U.S. aluminum industry.
The project will see REAL ALLOY use ALTEK’s AluSalt™ processing technology to recycle metallics and salts while recovering valuable non-metallic byproducts. This innovative approach aims to eliminate landfill waste associated with salt slag recycling while reducing carbon emissions and contributing to a circular economy.
“ALTEK is very excited to work with REAL ALLOY on this first-of-its-kind, milestone project for the U.S. aluminum industry as they work toward achieving aggressive sustainability goals,” said James Herbert, managing director of ALTEK. “Our AluSalt technology is designed to reduce carbon emissions, eliminate landfill associated with salt slag recycling, and generate byproducts that can be reused back in REAL ALLOY’S recycling process, as well as within the cement and steel industries.”
Enviri has been working to enhance sustainability within the aluminum sector since its acquisition of ALTEK in 2018. With equipment operating in over 600 locations worldwide, ALTEK provides customers with methods to improve productivity, reduce waste streams, and find value in byproducts.
The new facility represents a significant step forward in achieving a zero-waste aluminum recycling process, aligning with ongoing efforts to create a more sustainable and efficient aluminum industry in the U.S. and beyond.
