EnerSys Announces Leadership Transition as David Shaffer Retires

READING, PAEnerSys (NYSE: ENS) has announced a major leadership transition as David Shaffer prepares to retire from his role as President and Chief Executive Officer in May 2025. Shawn O’Connell, currently serving as President of Energy Systems Global, has been appointed as President and Chief Operating Officer, effective immediately, and is set to succeed Shaffer as CEO.

Since joining EnerSys in 2011, O’Connell has been instrumental in leading global teams and driving transformational initiatives, particularly during challenging times such as the COVID-19 pandemic and periods of economic volatility. His accomplishments include a significant business transformation within the Energy Systems Global segment and achieving notable growth and profitability in Motive Power.

Paul Tufano, Chair of EnerSys, praised Shaffer’s contributions, saying, “On behalf of the entire Board, I want to express our deepest gratitude to Dave for his visionary leadership and unwavering dedication.” Under Shaffer’s guidance, EnerSys evolved from a traditional battery company into a global leader in energy systems solutions, increasing revenue by approximately 35% through strategic acquisitions and innovations.

Shaffer reflected on his tenure, stating, “As I reflect on my 19 years with this remarkable organization and as CEO since 2016, I couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve accomplished together.” He expressed confidence in O’Connell’s ability to lead, highlighting his ethics, leadership capabilities, and strategic vision.
