Early Completion of Roundabout Project in Doylestown Township

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT)

DOYLESTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced the early completion of a $3.9 million safety improvement project in Doylestown Township, Bucks County. Construction, which began in October 2023, was completed approximately 19 months ahead of schedule.

The project involved building two adjacent single-lane roundabouts at the intersection of Easton Road and New Britain Road/Sauerman Road. These roundabouts include new drainage systems, sidewalks with ADA-compliant crossings, bicycle facilities, lighting, and full-depth pavement reconstruction.

The design of the roundabouts also considered public transportation needs, accommodating both SEPTA and DART routes. Additionally, the project connected existing trails on the east and west sides, creating a continuous path linking Triangle Park, the Heritage Gateway Center at Doylestown, and nearby residences and businesses.

PennDOT aimed to enhance safety through this project by reducing the number of crashes at the intersection, lowering vehicle speeds, and improving mobility for bicyclists and pedestrians. The expedited utility work contributed to the project’s early completion, surpassing the original deadline of April 2026.

Although major construction has concluded, some tasks such as lighting installation, permanent sign installation, and landscaping will continue for several months.
