TELFORD, PA — Dräger has introduced its next-generation Polaris operating room (OR) lights, designed to enhance surgical precision, simplify workflow, and improve overall patient safety. The new portfolio, featuring the Comfort, Pro, and Pro+ models, is tailored to address a variety of surgical and budgetary needs, with options for customization and scalability.
“Our design goal for our new generation of Polaris lights was to create a system that consistently delivers high quality, virtually shadow-free illumination – while being intuitive and easy to use,” said Lothar Thielen, President and CEO of Draeger Inc.
Key innovations in the Polaris line include advanced LED technology, offering a homogenous light field with smooth edges and an adjustable brightness range. Users can also modify the color temperature, enhancing tissue differentiation. The premium Polaris Pro+ model comes equipped with 3D shadow management technology, seamlessly maintaining optimal illumination by compensating for obstructions such as a staff member’s movement.
To safeguard patients, the Pro and Pro+ models feature Light Guard, which limits radiation levels during overlapping illumination, preventing burns or tissue damage. For surgeons, anti-glare and Eye Relax functions alleviate visual strain and fatigue. Additionally, an optional integrated 4K MedView camera captures high-resolution video for documentation or consultation.
Polaris lights emphasize ease of operation, weighing just 40 pounds and featuring compact, ergonomic designs that allow precise positioning while remaining drift-free over time. The Preset Manager system further streamlines OR workflows by storing up to 30 customized light settings.
The sleek, rounded design aids cleaning efficiency, with all components compatible with standard disinfectants used across Dräger’s OR equipment. By incorporating thoughtful engineering, Dräger’s Polaris lights aim to reduce preparation times and support a cleaner, more efficient surgical environment.
The Polaris line is currently on display at the AORN Global Surgical Conference & Expo, showcasing its potential to transform the modern operating room.
