Double Life Sentence Secured in Delaware Violent Gun Case Involving Fatal Domestic Shooting

WILMINGTON, DE — The Delaware Department of Justice has secured two life sentences plus an additional 19 years for a Chester man convicted in a fatal domestic-related shooting case. Dashan Freeman, 41, received his sentence on December 15 in New Castle County Superior Court, marking the conclusion of a case that rocked the local community.

Freeman was convicted of several charges, including Burglary in the 1st Degree, Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited, two counts of Murder in the 1st Degree, and three counts of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony. These convictions stem from a violent incident that occurred on June 25, 2020, resulting in the death of Vincent Flowers, 39, and the wounding of Freeman’s ex-girlfriend.

“This was a brutal, tragic murder that should remind us of the deadly overlap between guns and domestic violence,” stated Attorney General Kathy Jennings. The Attorney General emphasized that domestic violence is a leading precursor to shootings in Delaware, pledging the continued commitment of her team to prevent such killings.

On the fateful day, Freeman, then residing in Wilmington, entered his ex-girlfriend’s home on East 13th Street. Believing she was with another partner, he pulled out a gun and shot her once in the chest in a hallway confrontation. He then pursued her into the bedroom, where he shot Flowers five times, despite his pleas for mercy. Flowers succumbed to his injuries shortly afterward, while the second victim recovered at Christiana Hospital.

The successful sentencing was a result of the concerted efforts of Deputy Attorneys General Cindy Hurlock and John Downs, along with Paralegal Jaime Prater, Social Worker Stacey Murphy, Administrative Assistant Evelyn Davis, and Investigator Willie Santiago. Detective Justin Kane of the Wilmington Police Department led the investigation.
