PHILADELPHIA, PA — Booker’s Restaurant and Bar, a vibrant dining spot in West Philadelphia, is making waves not just with its culinary offerings but also through its innovative empowerment program for employees. Co-owners Tracey and Cheri Syphax have embarked on a unique initiative to nurture entrepreneurship among their staff, a first in the restaurant industry.
The Syphaxes, alongside entrepreneur CJ Meenan, have designed a program to provide employees with the knowledge and tools to become future business owners. This effort builds on Tracey Syphax’s experience with Reentry Ventures & Street StartUps, which he co-founded to support reentry programs and entrepreneurial ventures for those affected by the war on drugs.
During National Black Business Month, employees at Booker’s are receiving education in critical areas such as financial management, marketing, and business development. The program also includes hands-on mentorship, allowing staff to shadow the Syphaxes in their business activities.
This initiative not only aims to uplift individual employees but also seeks to enrich the local community by fostering new business leaders poised to contribute economically. “We want to show our employees that they have the potential to be successful business owners and leaders in their community. By investing in them, we are investing in the future of the City of Philadelphia,” said Tracey Syphax.
This groundbreaking approach aims to create a positive impact beyond the restaurant setting, setting a precedent for community-focused business practices.
