Delaware State Police Investigate Fatal Crash in Newark

NEWARK, DE Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred early Tuesday morning in Newark, claiming the life of a 23-year-old man.

The incident happened on March 18, 2025, at approximately 7:15 a.m., as a blue 2004 Honda Accord was heading northbound on Sunset Lake Road (SR-72), south of Reybold Road. Officials report that the vehicle appeared to be traveling at a high speed when it veered off the right side of the roadway. The car struck a ditch and collided with several trees before coming to a stop.

The driver, a Newark resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld until family and next of kin are notified.

The roadway was closed for about 4.5 hours as Delaware State Police Troop 2’s Collision Reconstruction Unit conducted their investigation and cleared the area.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash and are appealing to the public for assistance.
