DOVER, DE — Nonprofit organizations in Delaware have a unique opportunity to receive financial support from an unlikely source: state employees and retirees. The Delaware State Employees’ Charitable Campaign (SECC) Steering Committee has announced that it is seeking applications from local nonprofits interested in participating in its 2024 campaign.
The SECC, in partnership with the United Way of Delaware, serves as the primary platform through which state employees and retirees can give back to their communities. It supports Delaware nonprofit organizations that offer crucial services to families, children, and adults across the state. In the 2023 SECC, state employees generously donated to 156 charitable organizations, providing much-needed funding for a variety of causes.
Governor John Carney expressed his admiration for the dedication of state employees to the SECC. “Year after year, state employees have demonstrated they are generous with their time and contributions to the SECC,” said Carney. “Over the past seven years, I have been committed to building on the success of the State Employees’ Charitable Campaign. We are determined to make the 2024 campaign the most impactful one yet.”
The SECC’s 2024 campaign will run from September 1 through October 31, and nonprofits are invited to submit their applications by March 31, 2024. Claire DeMatteis, Secretary of the Department of Human Resources and Chair of the SECC, encouraged nonprofits to seize this opportunity.
“I encourage nonprofit organizations in our state to continue to participate in this annual charitable campaign so we can reach even more Delawareans who need our support,” said DeMatteis.
This call for applications underscores the unique role that state employees and retirees play in supporting the local community through the SECC. It also highlights the potential for nonprofits to access much-needed funding to continue their work. Interested charities can find more information about eligibility criteria and the application process on the Resources for Charities page of the SECC website.
