DOVER, DE — The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) is inviting families to explore the aquatic world of the Delaware Bay through its “Life in the Bay” program. This engaging educational event will take place at Woodland Beach on July 31 and August 7.
Interactive Learning Experience
The “Life in the Bay” program is designed for children aged six and older but also appeals to adults interested in marine life. Staff from DNREC’s Aquatic Resources Education Center (AREC) will demonstrate seining, a method of capturing aquatic creatures using a large net along the bay’s shoreline.
Participants will observe AREC staff as they use seine nets to collect various aquatic species. Once the creatures are caught, attendees will have the chance to examine them up close before assisting in their release back into the bay.
Essential Details
The program requires participants to wear closed-toed shoes, but all other necessary equipment will be provided by AREC. This hands-on experience aims to educate families about the rich biodiversity found in the Delaware Bay.
Two sessions are scheduled:
- Wednesday, July 31, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
- Wednesday, August 7, from 9 to 10 a.m.
Registration Required
Pre-registration is mandatory to ensure adequate supplies and can be completed through the DNREC events calendar. The program is free, making it an accessible opportunity for families to learn about local marine life.
