PHILADELPHIA, PA — East Passyunk Avenue welcomes a groundbreaking addition to its vibrant culinary scene with the grand opening of DaVinci & Yu, the first restaurant in Philadelphia to offer a fusion of Italian and Asian cuisines. Spearheaded by Chef and Owner Marc Grika, the restaurant reimagines classic dishes with bold combinations that promise to surprise and delight diners.
Located at 1819 East Passyunk Avenue, DaVinci & Yu replaces Grika’s former Southern comfort spot, Flannel. Inspired by a revelatory dining experience in Rome, Grika combines flavors, ingredients, and techniques from both Italian and Asian traditions. On the menu, diners can expect inventive dishes such as Black Cod Dumplings with Taleggio cream sauce, Aran-Sushi Trio that merges arancini with sushi rolls, Cacio E Pepe E Miso, and Italian-Asian Wedding Ramen. Desserts like Black Sesame Tiramisu and Tofu Flan with Gochujang Caramel add an unconventional yet satisfying finale to the dining experience.
“Bringing this menu home to Philadelphia and East Passyunk is a thrill,” said Grika, who drew on decades of experience in renowned kitchens across Philadelphia and New York to craft this concept. His vision is executed in collaboration with culinary rising star Lee Richards, ensuring each dish reflects meticulous care and creativity.
A Fresh Look and Vibe
The interior of DaVinci & Yu is a visual feast, blending cultural inspirations with local artistry. The space features bold murals by local artist Alim Legget, vibrant greenery, and custom design elements sourced directly by Grika. Copper and metal lanterns cast a warm glow, while cherry blossoms and Asian influences intertwine with Italian motifs throughout the dining area. The restaurant seats 57 patrons indoors and will roll out outdoor seating in its city-approved “streetery” once warmer weather arrives.
Drink Program and Dining Hours
Complementing the fusion menu is a thoughtfully curated drink menu that highlights Pennsylvania-made spirits, beers, and sakes. Signature cocktails include the Ube Espresso Martini with house-blend Mexican cold brew and the “Sake to Me” featuring Japanese whiskey, Prosecco, and yuzu. Non-alcoholic options include inventive mocktails like the Lemongrass Mule.
DaVinci & Yu is currently open for dinner service Wednesday through Sunday, with hours from 4:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on weekdays and until 10:00 p.m. on weekends. Plans are already underway to add lunch, brunch, and a happy hour in the upcoming months.
Looking Ahead
Grika’s passion for excellence and continuous improvement ensures DaVinci & Yu will evolve over time. “I’m always thinking, ‘How can it be better?’” he shared, emphasizing his commitment to meeting customer expectations and refining the dining experience.
With its inventive menu, striking design, and community focus, DaVinci & Yu is poised to become a standout destination on East Passyunk Avenue. Food lovers and curious diners alike are invited to explore this exciting culinary fusion and be part of Philadelphia’s next great dining chapter.
