DELAWARE — Delaware veterans are finding new avenues for creativity, camaraderie, and healing through CreatiVeterans, a free eight-week art program announced by the Delaware Division of the Arts in partnership with Mariposa Arts and the Office of Veterans Services. This ground-breaking initiative invites veterans from across the state to explore artistic methods guided by professional teaching artists, all in a supportive, judgment-free environment.

Participants will develop skills in various art forms during classes held across all three Delaware counties, culminating in exhibitions celebrating their work with families and the wider community.

Art as a Tool for Healing and Connection

Participants not only learn new skills but also experience the therapeutic benefits of engaging in creative expression. Research shows that artistic activities can reduce stress, enhance cognitive function, and foster a vital sense of connection—all critical for veterans transitioning to post-service life.

“The arts have an extraordinary ability to heal, connect, and inspire,” said Jessica Ball, Director of the Delaware Division of the Arts. “CreatiVeterans offers our veteran community an outlet to explore creativity while fostering camaraderie and personal growth. We are thrilled to make these opportunities accessible statewide.”

This initiative also addresses isolation by creating a space where veterans can bond and share their experiences. “Through programs like CreatiVeterans, veterans not only rediscover their creative voices but also find support and community,” added Mariposa Arts owner Vanesa Simon. “Art brings us together and provides a pathway to new beginnings.”

A Celebration of Creativity

The culmination of each workshop will be marked by a celebratory exhibition, showcasing the participants’ creations and honoring their artistic journeys. With tools, mentorship, and connection, CreatiVeterans transforms art into a bridge toward healing, empowerment, and community-building for Delaware’s veterans.

The CreatiVeterans program is free for Delaware veterans, but space is limited to 12 participants per session. Registration and full details are available at https://arts.delaware.gov/creativeterans.
