UPPER CHICHESTER TOWNSHIP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced planned construction activities under a $99.4 million project to enhance travel and safety along a 1.4-mile section of U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) in Upper Chichester Township, Delaware County.

From Sunday, December 8, through Wednesday, December 11, periodic lane closures will occur nightly between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. at the following locations:

  • U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway): Between Cherry Tree Road and the Route 452 (Market Street) interchange.
  • Route 452 (Market Street): On the north side of the interchange with U.S. 322.
  • Bethel Avenue: Between Dutton Street and the U.S. 322/Route 452 intersection.

These closures will facilitate excavation, temporary paving, and the placement of barriers. Motorists are encouraged to allocate extra travel time, as delays are expected. All work is contingent upon weather conditions.

This effort, referred to as Section 103, is the second phase of a four-part initiative to reconstruct and expand a 6.7-mile stretch of U.S. 322. Upgrades include widening the roadway to four travel lanes, adding turn lanes, enhancing traffic signals, and reconfiguring intersections such as Cherry Tree and Bethel Avenue. The project also involves reconstructing and improving the Route 452 interchange and expanding Bethel Avenue to accommodate turn lanes and ramps.
