LOWER POTTSGROVE TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that construction activities will take place next week on U.S. 422 as part of an $83.6 million project to reconstruct and improve approximately 2.1 miles of the expressway. This project includes replacing bridges between the Sanatoga Interchange and Porter Road in Lower Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery County.
From Tuesday, May 28, through Friday, May 31, lane closures will occur periodically on both westbound and eastbound U.S. 422. Westbound traffic between Evergreen Road and Armand Hammer Boulevard will face shoulder reconstruction from 5:00 AM to 2:00 PM each day. Eastbound traffic between Keim Street and Evergreen Road will experience lane closures for roadway reconstruction from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Additionally, a lane closure with flagging will be in place on Sanatoga Road between Linfield Road and High Street for bridge construction. This will occur daily from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through these areas as backups and delays are expected. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
This Section M1B project aims to improve travel and safety on U.S. 422 by reconstructing the road on both existing and revised alignments. Enhancements include better horizontal curve radii, wider shoulders, and increased vertical clearance. The project also involves removing and replacing a culvert at Sprogels Run and a single-span bridge over Porter Road with a new two-span bridge. The bridge carrying U.S. 422 over Sanatoga Road and Sanatoga Creek will also be reconstructed and widened.
