Construction on U.S. 422 to Cause Significant Traffic Delays

Lane Closure - Traffic Alert

LOWER POTTSGROVE TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that construction activities will continue next week on U.S. 422. This $83.6 million project aims to reconstruct and improve approximately 2.1 miles of the expressway and replace bridges between the Sanatoga Interchange and Porter Road in Lower Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery County.

From Monday, July 22, through Thursday, July 25, lane closures will disrupt traffic flow. Westbound U.S. 422 will experience closures from 4:00 AM to 2:00 PM between the Collegeville and Sanatoga interchanges for road reconstruction. Eastbound U.S. 422 will face closures from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM between the Sanatoga and Collegeville interchanges for utility work.

Additionally, from 7:00 PM on Tuesday, July 23, to 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 24, westbound U.S. 422 between Evergreen Road and Armand Hammer Boulevard will have lane closures for drainage installation.

Motorists should anticipate significant traffic backups and delays. Extra travel time is advised. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under the Section M1B project, U.S. 422 will see improvements to horizontal curve radii, shoulder widths, and vertical clearance to enhance travel and safety. A culvert at Sprogels Run and a single-span bridge over Porter Road will be replaced with a new two-span bridge. The bridge over Sanatoga Road and Sanatoga Creek will also be reconstructed and widened.

Drivers are encouraged to plan alternate routes and stay informed about traffic updates to minimize disruptions.
