Construction Activities to Continue on U.S. 422 Next Week

Lane restrictions

LOWER POTTSGROVE TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that construction activities will persist next week on U.S. 422 as part of an $83.6 million project. This initiative aims to reconstruct and improve approximately 2.1 miles of the expressway and replace bridges between the Sanatoga Interchange and Porter Road in Lower Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery County.

From Monday, August 12, through Friday, August 16, intermittent single lane closures will affect westbound U.S. 422 between Evergreen Road and Armand Hammer Boulevard from 4:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Similarly, eastbound U.S. 422 between Keim Street and Evergreen Road will experience single lane closures from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Drivers are advised to allow extra travel time as backups and delays are expected. All scheduled activities are contingent on favorable weather conditions.

Under the Section M1B project, U.S. 422 will undergo reconstruction on both its existing and revised alignments. Enhancements will include improved horizontal curve radii, increased shoulder widths, and better vertical clearance to boost travel and safety. The project also involves removing and replacing a culvert at Sprogels Run, located just east of Porter Road, and replacing the existing single-span bridge over Porter Road with a new two-span bridge. Additionally, the bridge carrying U.S. 422 over Sanatoga Road and Sanatoga Creek will be reconstructed and widened.

PennDOT urges motorists to exercise caution and patience when traveling through these work zones, emphasizing that these construction efforts are critical for enhancing road safety and improving travel conditions.
