PLUMSTEAD TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced the completion of a major construction project to replace the Route 32 (River Road) bridge over a tributary of the Delaware River in Plumstead Township. The project, valued at $965,000, concluded on Friday.
Under this initiative, PennDOT’s contractor replaced the 101-year-old single-span concrete slab bridge with a 22-foot-wide reinforced concrete box culvert. Enhancements included the installation of a structure-mounted guiderail barrier and brown-painted approach guiderail. The project also involved utility relocation, debris removal, and roadway embankment repairs.
Following the bridge’s closure due to Hurricane Ida in 2021, temporary repairs were made to reopen the road quickly. The bridge serves approximately 2,238 motorists daily.
