PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Cobbs Creek Foundation and Troon have appointed Christopher Parker as the General Manager of the Cobbs Creek Golf Campus, set to rise in West Philadelphia. The expansive 350-acre campus aims to redefine the local golfing landscape and become a community touchstone.
Parker, a seasoned golf industry professional with over 20 years of experience, will oversee the campus’s development and operations. His journey to Philadelphia follows a successful tenure as the general manager at Rock Spring Golf Club in West Orange, New Jersey. Parker’s resume includes managing golf instructional programs in Maryland and overseeing operations at East Potomac Golf Course in Washington, D.C.
“I am beyond thrilled to be appointed to this key position at Cobbs Creek. The work that the Cobbs Creek Foundation and Troon will complete on the campus will have a profound influence on the Philadelphia community for years to come,” Parker stated.
The Cobbs Creek Golf Campus is a transformative project featuring an 18-hole championship course restored by acclaimed architects Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner, a brand-new 9-hole course, a golf entertainment venue, and a TGR Learning Lab. The campus will be completed in phases over the next three years, with parts opening as early as 2025.
Jeff Shanahan, President of the Cobbs Creek Foundation, expressed enthusiasm for Parker’s appointment. “We could not be more excited to welcome Chris to the Cobbs Creek team. His incredible breadth of experience and knowledge of the game will be a huge asset to our mission of making golf more accessible to all Philadelphians,” Shanahan said.
In addition to recreational facilities, the Cobbs Creek project will house the TGR Learning Lab Philadelphia—a 30,000 square-foot educational hub set to serve over 4,500 local children annually. The lab, made possible through generous donations, will offer free access to STEAM education and career readiness programs for students from 1st through 12th grade.
The golf entertainment venue will feature cutting-edge amenities including temperature-controlled practice bays, Toptracer technology, and social gathering spaces. A Heritage Center will celebrate the rich history of Cobbs Creek, a course that opened in 1916 and has long been a welcoming ground for golfers of all backgrounds.
The restoration also includes significant environmental efforts. The Cobbs Creek Foundation is committed to sustainable practices, including the restoration of three miles of creek and adjacent wetlands to mitigate flood risks and promote long-term ecological health.
Parker’s leadership is expected to drive the Cobbs Creek Golf Campus toward becoming a premier destination for both golf enthusiasts and the broader community, combining sport, education, and environmental stewardship in one ambitious vision.
