DOVER, DE and BLUE BELL, PA — The Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS) is set to undergo a major technological transformation with the adoption of Clariti’s enterprise community development software. This initiative aims to enhance customer experience, cut departmental costs, and streamline operations, ultimately saving staff valuable time. By consolidating all LADBS development services into a single platform, the system will simplify interactions for customers, small businesses, and contractors engaging in permitting activities.

Clariti’s advanced all-in-one permitting platform will replace the existing legacy system, enabling a fully digital process from application to approval and completion. In 2023 alone, LADBS managed over 167,000 permits with a valuation exceeding $5.8 billion, conducted upwards of one million inspections, and approved more than 83,000 plans.

Unisys, a global leader in technology solutions and a trusted partner of Clariti, will spearhead the implementation of this new system. Collaborating with the City of Los Angeles, Unisys will develop an innovative, city-wide system designed to expedite the permitting and licensing process for the city’s residents and businesses.

Jim MacLaggan, Executive Vice President of Sales at Clariti, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “We’re thrilled to partner with the City of Los Angeles on this transformative project. This initiative is unprecedented in scale, and it underscores Clariti’s leadership in delivering the digital government services that cities like Los Angeles need to stay ahead.”

For residents and businesses, the new system promises a seamless, 24/7 online interface, with a central dashboard to manage applications, payments, and status tracking, all while ensuring secure identity management and data protection.

City staff will benefit from increased customer self-service options, reducing the need for in-person interactions. Time-saving tools will expedite reviews, inspections, and approvals, while improved reporting and data analysis capabilities will lay the groundwork for ongoing technological enhancements.

Manju Naglapur, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Cloud, Applications, & Infrastructure Solutions at Unisys, remarked, “We are excited to work with the City of Los Angeles to drive the modernization of its services, leveraging our extensive public sector expertise. We are committed to enhancing the user experience by ensuring the seamless and efficient deployment of Clariti’s platform, as part of this strong collaboration.”

This partnership marks a significant step forward in modernizing public service delivery for Los Angeles, setting a benchmark for other cities aiming to enhance their digital infrastructure.
