CHESTER, PA —The City of Chester, along with the Chester Economic Development Authority, has been awarded $500,000 in Local Share Account (LSA) grants from Pennsylvania’s Department of Community & Economic Development. These grants, secured through the efforts of Sen. John I. Kane and Rep. Carol Kazeem, are set to enhance vital infrastructure and community services in the area.
The allocation includes a $250,000 grant earmarked for the construction of a new police headquarters. The current facility, dating back to the 1980s, is plagued by structural issues such as severe water leaks. Although the timeline for the new headquarters’ completion remains undetermined, this funding marks a critical step toward ensuring a safer, more efficient environment for law enforcement operations.
In addition, another $250,000 grant will initiate Phase II of the ACCESS project, dedicated to the development of a gymnasium at the community center, a key provider of social services in Chester. This phase will encompass the installation of essential sports facilities, including basketball and volleyball setups, alongside improvements like exterior landscaping and fencing, ensuring the gymnasium is fully equipped and stable.
Local officials have expressed their gratitude and commitment to these developments. Mayor Stefan Roots acknowledged the efforts of Sen. Kane and Rep. Kazeem, highlighting their unwavering dedication to enhancing the quality of life for Chester’s residents. Sen. Kane emphasized that the grants symbolize more than just financial aid; they represent a commitment to community safety and youth development, reflecting his continuous advocacy for the city’s prosperity. Rep. Kazeem echoed these sentiments, reaffirming her role as a steadfast champion for Chester.
These grants represent a strategic investment in Chester’s future, poised to improve both community safety and development. By addressing critical infrastructure needs and expanding social services, the city is set to experience significant positive changes, reinforcing its commitment to fostering a thriving, secure community.
