Centerville Road Bridge Demolition to Begin, Expect Nighttime Lane Restrictions on Route 30

Travel Restrictions

EAST HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that the old Centerville Road bridge, which crosses Route 30 in East Hempfield Township, Lancaster County, is set to be removed. The demolition process will begin next week, leading to nighttime lane restrictions and occasional stoppages on Route 30.

The demolition work will take place from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM starting Monday, December 11, through Thursday, December 14. During this period, there will be single lane restrictions in both directions on Route 30. Drivers can also expect temporary stoppages of up to 15 minutes as the contractor removes the spans across the highway.

Additionally, traffic on Centerville Road will be reduced to a single lane from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM on Wednesday, December 13, and Thursday, December 14. Traffic control will be managed by flaggers during these hours.

The demolition work will continue from Monday, December 18, through Thursday, December 21, with single lane restrictions on Route 30. Delays are anticipated, and motorists are advised to consider alternate routes.

This demolition is part of the larger Centerville Road Interchange Improvement project. The project includes a range of improvements such as structure replacement, roadway widening, drainage improvements, traffic signal upgrades, and other miscellaneous construction tasks.

The project covers work on Centerville Road from Cornerstone Drive to Marietta Avenue (Route 23), and Marietta Avenue from Centerville Road to Stony Battery Road. While the majority of the project is located in East Hempfield Township, the section from Cornerstone Drive to Columbia Avenue falls within Manor Township.
