PHILADELPHIA, PA — To mark its eighth anniversary, Puyero, the beloved Venezuelan eatery, is planning a weeklong celebration filled with giveaways, special menus, and community appreciation. Founded by husband-and-wife team Gilberto Arends and Manuela Villasmil, Puyero first opened in 2017 in Philadelphia’s Queen Village neighborhood and has since expanded to a second location in University City.
Fans of Venezuelan cuisine can kick off the festivities on Tuesday, April 8, National Empanada Day. At noon, the first 100 visitors at both locations will receive a free empanada. Puyero’s two locations are at 524 S. 4th Street in Queen Village and 3428 Sansom Street in University City’s Shop Penn District.
As part of the anniversary festivities, Puyero’s Queen Village location will feature an exclusive anniversary menu on Saturday, April 12, and Sunday, April 13. The lineup will include innovative dishes never offered at either location before, such as Tequeños de Guayaba ($8), Empanada de Pabellón ($8), and Tostones Playeros ($15), a combination of shrimp ceviche and avocado served on fried green plantains. Other highlights include Arepa Playera ($15), Pernil and Cotija ($15), and the irresistible Churro Bites with Nutella and dulce de leche ($5).
“Philadelphia has been so great to us since we opened, and we love giving back to the community and our guests any chance we get,” said Arends. “We’re excited for the giveaway, but also to offer some really special dishes throughout the whole weekend.”
Puyero’s eighth anniversary is a testament to the restaurant’s commitment to quality, community, and Venezuelan culinary traditions. With its free empanada giveaway and exclusive anniversary menu, Puyero is inviting Philadelphians to share in the joy of this special milestone.
