ELKTON, MD — In the recent Legislative Session Day 2024-03 held on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, the Cecil County Council enacted several key resolutions that will impact emergency services and historic preservation in the county.
Firstly, the council approved Resolution No. 06-2024, a budget amendment that appropriates an additional $25,000 from the General Fund to the Department of Emergency Services budget. These funds are earmarked for the purchase of a used ambulance, a move that bolsters the department’s fleet and enhances its ability to respond swiftly to emergency situations in the region.
The council also confirmed the appointment of three new members to the Cecil County Emergency Medical Services Advisory Board under Resolution No. 07-2024. Nathan Stewart will replace Stephen Cummins III, representing IAFF Local 4645. Melissa Kinsler will step into the role vacated by Rodney Heinze, representing Councilmanic District 2. Lastly, Robert Muller will fill the position left by Richard Collins, representing the Cecil County Firemen’s Association (Ex-Officio). The three appointees will serve a term expiring on June 1, 2024.
In addition, the council enacted Resolution No. 08-2024, which approves a property tax credit for the owner of the historic Town Point School. The resolution grants a tax credit of 10% of the documented expenses spent by the owner-taxpayer for the restoration and preservation of the schoolhouse, a historically designated structure in Cecil County. This move underscores the council’s commitment to preserving and promoting the county’s rich history.
Copies of these resolutions are available at the County Administration Building located at 200 Chesapeake Blvd., Elkton. For more information, residents can contact the County Council Office at 410-996-5201 or via email at council@ccgov.org.
