Cecil County Council Approves Funding for Drug Court Services, Appoints New Members to Economic Development Commission

ELKTON, MD — During the Legislative Session on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, the Cecil County Council enacted two significant resolutions aimed at enhancing local services and promoting economic development.

In Resolution No. 55-2023, the Council approved a supplemental appropriation of $170,161 to the Special Revenue Other Grants Fund for Cecil County Circuit Court. This grant, awarded by the US Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), and Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), will be used to implement and enhance drug court services. These services include service coordination, management of drug court participants, and recovery support services. This funding aims to address issues related to substance abuse in the county and improve the outcomes for individuals involved in the justice system.

In addition, the Council confirmed the appointment of two new members to the Economic Development Commission. As per Resolution No. 56-2023, Amy Marston will complete the term of Sharon Kurfuerst, set to expire on January 17, 2026, while Kristina Brown will finish the term of Jeffrey Emmons, which ends on April 1, 2025. The Economic Development Commission plays a vital role in guiding the county’s economic growth and development strategy.
