NORTH EAST, MD — Christine Warwick, Assistant Professor of Biology at Cecil College, has been awarded the Leadership Award by the Northeastern Maryland Technology Council (NMTC) for her remarkable contributions to STEM education. This recognition was presented during the Fourteenth Annual NMTC Visionary Awards held last month.
Professor Warwick, a dedicated faculty member at Cecil College since 2002, has played a pivotal role in advancing STEM learning. Initially joining as an adjunct instructor and science lab coordinator, she transitioned into a full-time role and has since served as Chair of the Science and Technology Department for eight years. During her tenure, she led the development of several innovative academic programs, including associate degrees in Cybersecurity, Bioproduction, and Biomedical Science.
One of Warwick’s most notable achievements is the creation of the Bioproduction program in collaboration with Thomas Jefferson University and the Jefferson Institute for Bioproduction. This partnership ensures students have access to cutting-edge learning opportunities and smooth transitions into bachelor’s programs.
Her efforts extend beyond degree programs. Warwick was instrumental in launching certificate programs in Cybersecurity, Biological Laboratory Skills, and Pre-Veterinarian Technician. Under her leadership, Cecil College also secured a grant from the National Institute for Innovation in Manufacturing Biopharmaceuticals (NIIMBL), enhancing laboratory resources with advanced equipment such as bioreactors and spectrometers.
Cecil College’s Cybersecurity program achieved the prestigious designation as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD) by the NSA and DHS, thanks to Warwick’s leadership. Her work in securing transfer agreements with four-year institutions helps ensure students have clear pathways for continued education and career advancement.
“This recognition is a testament to Professor Warwick’s tireless commitment to the growth of STEM education throughout her tenure at Cecil College,” said Dr. Mary Way Bolt, President of Cecil College. “She is a visionary leader who is beloved by her students and held in high regard by her colleagues.”
Professor Warwick’s contributions have had a lasting impact on STEM education, inspiring students and driving innovation in academic programs at Cecil College.
