NORTH EAST, MD — Ronaldo King, a standout student-athlete at Cecil College, has been awarded a prestigious scholarship by the Brothers of the Iota Alpha Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. The recognition came during the annual Donald J. Waldon Scholarship Banquet, held on March 9, 2025, at Water’s Edge Resort and Spa in Belcamp, Md.

Originally from Claxton Bay, Trinidad and Tobago, King has excelled academically and athletically during his two-and-a-half years at Cecil College. This spring, he will graduate with dual degrees in Business Management and Sports Management. He is also a member of the college’s men’s soccer team, where his commitment to both sports and academics has earned him widespread praise.

“This scholarship has been invaluable because it eliminated a lot of the financial burden for me, so I can focus more on my studies and training with the men’s soccer team,” King said. Reflecting on the application process, he added, “I knew I qualified for the scholarship, but before I signed up, I wasn’t sure if I would get it.”

Cecil College President Dr. Mary Way Bolt, who attended the banquet alongside other college representatives, praised King and the fraternity’s commitment to fostering success. “I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the members of Alpha Phi Alpha and the exceptional young men who were recognized with these well-deserved scholarships, including Cecil College student Ronaldo King. The fraternity’s unwavering dedication to leadership, academic excellence, and community service is a shining example of the transformative impact that these principles have in shaping a better future,” she said.

King plans to continue his education and collegiate soccer career following his graduation. He is considering offers from several universities, including the University of Delaware and Fordham University in New York City. While additional opportunities in Florida and North Carolina are also on the table, King hopes to remain in the Northeast.

King credits Cecil College for providing the supportive environment that allowed him to thrive. “I liked the quiet environment where Cecil allowed me to focus more on my studies,” he shared. “Being a small school, the community feels like family. I love everyone in the Student Life Office; they’ve been a great help to me.”

He also expressed gratitude to several key individuals who have guided him on his path, including Soccer Club Coach Steve Martinez and Cecil College Athletic Director Ed Durham. “He’s been a mentor to me, always giving me tips on how to move forward with school and soccer,” said King.

King’s achievements, both on and off the field, serve as an inspiring example of dedication and perseverance. His recognition by Alpha Phi Alpha reflects his hard work and commitment to academic and athletic excellence, underscoring the positive impact of community and opportunity at Cecil College.
