NORTH EAST, MD — Cecil College has been awarded a $148,708 grant from the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) to enhance mental health and wellness services for its students. This funding will enable the college to offer more accessible mental health support.
“We are grateful to the Maryland Department of Health for this generous grant, which will significantly enhance our ability to support our students’ mental health and wellness,” said Cecil College President Dr. Mary Way Bolt. “With the establishment of the Student Well-Being Center and the provision of telehealth services, we aim to provide immediate and accessible support to all our students.”
A key focus of the grant is to provide mental health telehealth services. This initiative will ensure that every student enrolled in credit programs has immediate access to counseling, even during evenings, weekends, and college breaks.
Cecil College is also launching the Student Wellbeing Office (SWB) on the North East Campus. This office will be staffed by two part-time professionals dedicated to offering support and building community among students. Additionally, ten $500 scholarships will be awarded to students enrolled in the Human Services program.
For those seeking virtual assistance, the college offers “You at College,” an online wellness platform. This resource allows users to take assessments, set wellness goals, and read testimonials from peers. The platform’s wellness framework covers three main areas: mental health, academic success, and personal development.
The college plans to highlight these services during the New Student Orientation in August. “Cecil College, an inclusive, open-access institution, is deeply committed to academic excellence and service to our region,” said a spokesperson. “We take pride in offering 45 associate degrees and 31 certificate programs and enrolling approximately 2,200 credit students and 2,700 continuing education students annually. This grant is a testament to our dedication to our students’ holistic well-being.”
The MDH grant represents a significant investment in the mental health resources available to Cecil College students, aiming to foster a supportive environment that promotes both academic success and personal growth.
