NORTH EAST, MD — In a heartwarming gathering at the Rising Sun Banquet Hall, the Cecil College Foundation recently hosted its annual Scholarship Breakfast, uniting over 260 attendees, including donors, scholarship recipients, and local officials. The event illuminates the profound impact of community support on educational advancement.
Addressing the assembly, Dr. Mary Way Bolt, President of Cecil College, highlighted the transformative influence of donor contributions. She urged attendees to engage with the scholarship recipients, underscoring the role of these contributions in shaping brighter futures for the students.
This year, the Foundation awarded scholarships to 365 students, amounting to $501,399. Among the inspiring stories shared, Louis Moore, a management program student maintaining a 3.75 GPA, and Delaney Stanley, an aspiring educator, exemplified the resilience and ambition fostered by these scholarships.
Amid rising tuition costs, community colleges like Cecil College are recognized as pivotal in combating the student debt crisis, offering affordable educational pathways. The event also honored Phyllis R. Zeise with the Mary A. Maloney Distinguished Service Award for her philanthropic endeavors.
The breakfast concluded with the distribution of Health Education Lift Program (HELP) Fund Awards to equip nursing students with essential tools. The Foundation encourages further donations to enhance this vital support.
