WILMINGTON, DE — In a dramatic late-night chase, Wilmington Police have apprehended a man on gun charges following a routine traffic stop.

On January 25, just before 9:40 p.m., members of the Safe Streets Task Force pulled over a vehicle in the 600 block of North Monroe Street. The driver, identified as 25-year-old Lucas Gatlin, allegedly made a break for it, leading officers on a short foot pursuit.

Despite his attempt to escape, Gatlin was eventually captured without any further incident. During the arrest, police recovered a loaded 9mm handgun, adding a grave dimension to the case.

Gatlin now faces multiple charges, including two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and resisting arrest. Following his arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 11, he was remanded to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $40,500 cash-only bail.

As we follow this story, it’s crucial to bear in mind that an arrest does not equate to guilt. All defendants, including Gatlin, are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
