PINEVILLE, PA — In a move that marries tradition with innovation, Angelo Pizza, the visionary behind Philadelphia’s renowned The Angelo Pizza, is joining forces with Andrew Abruzzese, the custodian of the historic Pineville Tavern in Bucks County. This collaboration is set to bring a new culinary experience to the residents of Bucks County, blending Angelo’s acclaimed pizzas with the timeless charm of The Pineville Tavern.
The partnership will officially take flight with a soft launch on March 28, leading up to a grand opening on April 4, where the first 35 customers will be treated to free pizza. Situated at 1098 Durham Road in Pineville, the tavern’s takeout store will serve as the stage for this gastronomic venture, offering a diverse menu that extends beyond pizza to include Italian Market staples such as jarred pizza sauces, homemade ravioli, classic sandwiches, and more.
Angelo Pizza and Andrew Abruzzese share deep-rooted family ties to the culinary world, tracing back to Baltimore’s Little Italy, where they honed their respective crafts. “Our commitment to uncompromised quality is what sets us apart,” Abruzzese remarked, underscoring the duo’s dedication to their heritage and culinary excellence.
This venture is not the first time the pair have collaborated. Following a stellar review by Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports in 2020, Angelo’s frozen pizza business saw a significant surge in demand. Abruzzese opened the doors of The Pineville’s kitchen to Angelo, enabling him to ramp up his production significantly during the challenging times of the pandemic.
The Pineville’s takeout menu will feature nine pizza options, including both red and white pies, with sizes ranging from small (12”) to large (18”) and prices between $14 and $24. Among the offerings are The Paulie, with thin-sliced beef, pork, and veal meatballs topped with fresh mozzarella; The St. Antney’s, featuring Italian sausage, roasted red peppers, and sweet Vidalia onions; and The Aunt Rose, adorned with mortadella and fresh mozzarella with a pesto drizzle. Initially available for takeout only, plans are in place to eventually offer these pizzas for dine-in at the bar.
Beyond pizzas, the takeout store will introduce four new sandwiches crafted by Chef Matthew Levin, including a Meatball Parmigiana and a Breaded Chicken Cutlet with lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise.
Open seven days a week from 4 to 10 p.m., the takeout store promises to be a go-to spot for both locals and visitors alike. The Pineville Tavern, established in 1742, remains a beacon of hospitality in Bucks County, serving lunch and dinner daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Learn more at PinevilleTavern.com.
