BRISTOL, PA — Bristol Borough has been awarded $250,000 in Act 13 Greenway, Trails and Recreation Program funds, earmarked for the improvement of the Maple Beach Road trailhead. The announcement came on Tuesday from Senator Steve Santarsiero (D-10) and Representative Tina Davis (D-141).

The grant will facilitate the design and construction of a multi-use trail along Maple Beach Road, including a designated parking area. The new trail will establish a crucial connection between the recently constructed Maple Beach Road bridge, the D&L Canal Trail terminus, and Bristol Waterfront Park Trails.

“This project will connect several recreational and natural resources in Bristol Borough, further expanding the trail network and allowing residents to get the most out of the area’s outdoor recreational opportunities,” said Senator Santarsiero.

Representative Davis echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of preserving outdoor spaces for future generations. “Preserving our outdoor recreation area for future generations is important to the quality of life in the Bristol community,” she said. “I look forward to the completion of the Maple Beach Road Trailhead Improvements project.”

The Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program provides funding for projects involving the development, rehabilitation, and improvements to public parks, recreation areas, greenways, trails, and river conservation.

The expansion of Bristol’s trail network represents a significant step toward enhancing the borough’s outdoor recreational offerings. In addition to promoting physical fitness and mental well-being among residents, the improved infrastructure could also attract visitors, boosting local tourism and contributing to the area’s economic vitality.

Moreover, the project underscores Bristol’s commitment to preserving its natural resources, aligning with broader statewide efforts to safeguard Pennsylvania’s rich environmental heritage. Investments like these not only benefit current residents but also ensure that future generations can enjoy the region’s natural beauty.

As Bristol Borough forges ahead with the Maple Beach Road Trailhead Improvements project, it promises to bring about a transformation that will enhance residents’ quality of life and contribute to the borough’s charm for years to come.
