Bridge Replacement to Close Black Rock Road in Upper Providence Township

Traffic Restrictions

UPPER PROVIDENCE TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that construction will begin on Monday, May 12, to replace the Black Rock Road bridge over Crossmans Run in Montgomery County. The project will require a full closure and detour lasting through Monday, December 1.

The closure will affect Black Rock Road between Upper Indian Head Road and Ashenfelter Road, with motorists directed to use Egypt Road and Route 29 (Bridge Street/Collegeville Road) as detour routes. Local access will remain available up to the construction zone. Commuters are advised to plan for potential delays and allocate extra travel time while work is underway.

The existing Black Rock Road bridge was constructed in 1925. The single-span, two-lane structure measures 12 feet long and 22 feet wide, carrying an estimated 7,796 vehicles daily. This replacement effort is part of PennDOT’s larger $9.5 million infrastructure initiative to repair or replace aging structures across a five-county region in southeastern Pennsylvania.

Loftus Construction, Inc., based in King of Prussia, has been contracted to complete the project, which is fully funded by state resources. Once finished, the new bridge will enhance safety and reliability for the thousands of motorists who rely on it each day.

PennDOT advises drivers to exercise patience and caution when traveling near the work zone to ensure the safety of workers and the public.
