Bridge Repairs on I-95 Girard Point Bridge to Cause Nighttime Delays

Traffic Restrictions

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that the Interstate 95 Girard Point Bridge in Philadelphia will undergo critical repairs next week. This initiative falls under a broader bridge improvement project aimed at addressing high-priority repairs across several interstate structures within the region.

Motorists are advised to brace for lane closures on the northbound deck of the I-95 Girard Point Bridge, specifically between Penrose Avenue (Route 291) and Broad Street (Route 611). These closures are scheduled for Monday, April 15, Wednesday, April 17, and Thursday, April 18, from 7:30 PM until 5:00 AM the following mornings. Given these disruptions, drivers should anticipate backups and delays, and are encouraged to allocate extra time when traveling through the affected area.

The scope of the repairs is comprehensive, focusing on critical components of bridge infrastructure. It includes the replacement of rocker bearings and frozen sliding plate bearings, the overhaul of deck expansion joints, the cleaning and painting of steel beams, the repair of substructure concrete, and the reconstruction of bearing pedestals. Additionally, the project encompasses the replacement of high mast light poles along the I-95 corridor in both Philadelphia and Delaware counties.

Driscoll Construction Company, Inc., based in Philadelphia, has been tasked as the general contractor for this project, which is fully financed by federal funds.

As work progresses, PennDOT reminds motorists that all scheduled activities are contingent upon favorable weather conditions. Adjustments to the timeline may occur, necessitating ongoing communication and flexibility from the traveling public.
