LANCASTER COUNTY, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced an infrastructure project that will see the replacement of a key bridge on Milton Grove Road (Route 4033) in Lancaster County, an essential link spanning Little Chiques Creek between Hossler Road in Rapho Township and Meadow View Road in Mount Joy Township. Starting Monday, April 15, the bridge will be closed to traffic, weather permitting, to facilitate this significant construction effort.
Travelers who frequently use this route will need to adjust their plans as a detour will direct traffic via Mount Pleasant Road, Grandview Road, Valley View Road, and back onto Milton Grove Road. This rerouting is expected to remain in effect until the completion of the project, slated for November 1, 2024.
The scope of the $2,381,250 project, undertaken by Susquehanna Valley Construction Corporation of New Cumberland, PA, extends beyond the mere replacement of the aging structure. It also includes minor work on the approaches to the new bridge as well as updates to guide rails, ensuring enhanced safety and reliability for years to come.
This infrastructure upgrade is part of PennDOT’s efforts to maintain and improve the state’s transportation network, addressing critical needs to support the mobility of its residents and the efficiency of commerce. The replacement of the bridge over Little Chiques Creek highlights these efforts.
As work gets underway, drivers are encouraged to plan for extra travel time due to the detour and to stay informed about the progress of the project.
