PHILADELPHIA, PA — Bridge construction will continue next week under a $7.8 million Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) project to replace the overhead ramp and structure from southbound U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard) to southbound U.S. 13 (Hunting Park Avenue) in the Hunting Park section of Philadelphia.

On Monday, September 18, through Friday, September 22:

  • A periodic single lane and shoulder closure will be in place from 6:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning on southbound U.S. 1 between Wyoming Avenue and 16th Street;
  • A periodic single lane and shoulder closure will be in place from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning on northbound U.S. 1 between 16th Street and Wyoming Avenue; and
  • The ramp to southbound U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard) at Wingohocking Street will be closed and detoured from 12:00 AM to 5:00 AM. Motorists will be directed to follow the posted detour route.

Drivers are being reminded that the southbound U.S. 13 (Hunting Park Avenue) ramp remains closed 24/7 through mid-January 2024. The ramp was closed to traffic on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, for demolition and replacement.

During the ramp closure, southbound U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard) motorists are being directed to follow the posted detour by using Wyoming Avenue and Broad Street (Route 611) to access U.S. 13 (Hunting Park Avenue).

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas or use an alternate route because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities under this contract are weather dependent.

The project involves replacing an existing bridge with a new, precast concrete structure. Additional improvements include retaining wall extensions, full depth paving, and the installation of various features like sidewalks, curb ramps, and highway lighting.
