PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a series of bridge and sign inspections that will lead to travel restrictions on Interstate I-76 and several other state highways in Philadelphia and Montgomery counties.

In Philadelphia, alternating lane closures are scheduled on the George C. Platt Memorial Bridge (Route 291) between the I-95 South and the I-76 interchanges, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Monday, March 4, and Tuesday, March 5. This is to allow for a comprehensive bridge inspection.

From Wednesday, March 6, through Friday, March 8, motorists can expect a right lane closure on eastbound I-76 between the Grays Ferry Avenue Interchange and the 34th Street on-ramp, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Over the weekend, from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 9, and Sunday, March 10, a right lane closure is also planned on westbound I-76 between the Vare Avenue and the South Street interchanges.

Meanwhile, in Montgomery County, a right lane closure is scheduled in both directions on I-76 between the Conshohocken and the Gladwyne interchanges in West Conshohocken Borough and Lower Merion Township, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Monday, March 4. On the same day, drivers should expect moving alternating lane closures in both directions on U.S. 422 between the U.S. 202 and the Route 23 interchanges in Upper Merion Township, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. On Tuesday, March 5, there will be another right lane closure in both directions on I-76 between the Gulph Mills and the King of Prussia interchanges in Upper Merion Township, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Motorists are advised to factor in extra travel time when navigating these areas as slowdowns are anticipated. All scheduled activities are dependent on favorable weather conditions.

These inspections form part of PennDOT’s ongoing program to inspect bridges and signs at least once every two years. This initiative helps ensure the safety and overall condition of these structures, contributing to the long-term safety and efficiency of Pennsylvania’s transportation infrastructure.
