KING OF PRUSSIA, PA — Block Clinical Inc. recently took center stage at the Friedreich’s Ataxia Symposium, hosted by the Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA) and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). The event, held on October 6–7 at the Crowne Plaza in King of Prussia, brought together industry leaders and community members to discuss significant challenges and solutions for Friedreich’s Ataxia (FA) patients.

Terri Nier, Director of Client Services at Block Clinical, joined a panel featuring representatives from Biogen, Delta Airlines, Harkin Institute, and FA community members. The discussion focused on enhancing patient accessibility, a crucial concern for those living with FA.

Block Clinical shared their expertise in managing patient support services, emphasizing the importance of a single point of contact for coordinating travel and financial arrangements. This approach helps minimize out-of-pocket expenses and ensures swift reimbursements and stipend disbursements for patients and caregivers.

Travel poses unique challenges for FA patients, who often require wheelchairs or other mobility aids. Nier highlighted the complexities of airport travel, including wheelchair assistance, TSA screenings, and flight seating arrangements. The panel also addressed the need for ADA-compliant hotel accommodations, noting that many so-called “accessible” rooms may not meet mobility needs.

Ground transportation, frequently utilized by FA patients, was another focal point. The availability and quality of accessible vehicles can vary, impacting travel for clinical trials or personal reasons. Panel discussions underscored the importance of thorough research and advance planning to secure suitable transportation options.

The symposium provided a platform for exchanging insights and experiences, aiming to improve the travel experience for FA patients. Block Clinical’s contributions underscored their commitment to reducing travel burdens and enhancing patient support services.
