WILMINGTON, DE — In a significant operation that unfolded on Wednesday morning, Delaware State Police arrested 48-year-old Leon Wilson of Bear, Delaware, for multiple felony drug offenses.
Around 10:45 a.m. on February 28, 2024, troopers from the Troop 2 Drug Unit and Troop 2 Patrol executed search warrants at two Bear area motels, the West Motel and the Afton Motel, both located on Pulaski Highway. The warrants were the result of a month-long investigation into Wilson, who was suspected of running a drug dealing operation.
During the execution of the search warrant at the West Motel, troopers made an unsettling discovery—an unattended infant in Wilson’s room. A further search of the motel rooms revealed approximately 12.2 grams of methamphetamine, 54 bags containing around .378 grams of heroin, about 3.6 grams of crack cocaine, approximately 90 grams of marijuana, and digital scales.
Wilson was apprehended at a nearby convenience store. A subsequent computer inquiry revealed Wilson had violated a court order that prohibits him from being in the presence of the infant.
Following his arrest, Wilson was taken to Troop 2, where he was charged with several crimes, including possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in Tier 2 quantity, two counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance in Tier 2 quantity, second-degree conspiracy, endangering the welfare of a child, and criminal contempt of a domestic violence protective order.
After arraignment by Justice of the Peace Court 2, Wilson was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $24,000 cash bond.
