PHILADELPHIA, PA — Axalta Coating Systems (NYSE: AXTA) has entered into a strategic partnership with Dürr Systems AG to advance digital paint solutions for the automotive industry, combining Axalta’s NextJet™ technology with Dürr’s robotics expertise. This collaboration aims to drive innovation in overspray-free paint application, enabling precise and efficient paint placement for light vehicle Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM).
The partnership positions Dürr as the robotics integrator for Axalta NextJet™, enhancing capabilities in applying tutone and graphics without the need for masking tools. This breakthrough promises significant efficiencies in the automotive manufacturing process.
“The maskless application of paint for tutone and graphics takes collaboration,” said Hadi Awada, President, Global Mobility Coatings at Axalta. “Through our partnership with Dürr, we can better serve OEM customers, building on Axalta’s coatings know-how and Dürr’s robotics integration. Together we are driving the future of digital paint technology.”
Dr. Lars Friedrich, CEO of Dürr Systems AG, emphasized the partnership’s importance, stating, “We are excited to collaborate with Axalta on the next generation of digital paint. As a pioneer in the field of overspray-free application, Dürr understands the requirements that OEMs demand for individual designs on their vehicles. This agreement will enable our joint technology to come faster to market and meet the needs of our customers.”
This collaboration builds on Axalta’s previous partnerships, including a joint venture with Xaar in 2023 to offer digital paint solutions tailored for light vehicle OEMs. Xaar will remain a vital part of the new offerings from Axalta and Dürr. Demonstrations of Axalta NextJet™ on Dürr robotics are already underway at Dürr’s test center in Bietigheim, Germany.
Both Axalta and Dürr bring deep expertise to this initiative. Axalta, with over 150 years in the coatings industry, continues to innovate across its broad portfolio of coatings and solutions. Dürr, a leader in manufacturing systems and automation, leverages its global presence and advanced technology to deliver sustainable and efficient production solutions.
With this partnership, Axalta and Dürr aim to revolutionize digital paint application, meeting the growing demands of automotive manufacturers for precision, sustainability, and design flexibility.
