RADNOR, PA — Avantor, Inc. (NYSE: AVTR) has announced its participation in a 10-year virtual power purchase agreement as part of the Energize program, marking a significant step towards enhancing renewable energy access within the pharmaceutical supply chain. This initiative underscores Avantor’s dedication to environmental sustainability by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting a sustainable infrastructure.
Michael Stubblefield, Avantor’s President and CEO, emphasized the importance of this move: “This partnership reflects Avantor’s continued commitment to reducing our greenhouse gas footprint while supporting the pharmaceutical industry in its quest to build a more sustainable supply chain infrastructure.” He added that the agreement plays a crucial role in the company’s long-term decarbonization efforts while reducing energy costs for their supply chain.
As part of the Energize Program, Avantor is facilitating the development of three solar projects in Spain, set to become operational in 2026. These projects will supply Avantor’s European operations with 25GWh of renewable energy each year for a decade, which is estimated to prevent 17,465 metric tons of CO2 emissions—equivalent to the annual energy use of 2,278 households.
Beyond the Energize partnership, Avantor is investing in renewable energy globally, with recent solar installations in Singapore, India, Sweden, and upstate New York. Additional projects in New Jersey and other locations across North America, Europe, and Asia are planned, all contributing to the company’s 2030 emissions reduction goals. Through these efforts, Avantor continues to lead in advancing renewable energy solutions across the pharmaceutical industry.
