WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, PA — ASTM International has introduced the Katharine E. Morgan Women in Leadership Award, named in honor of its first female president, Katharine E. Morgan. This prestigious accolade was presented to her during her retirement ceremony, celebrating her impactful career and dedication to standards development.
Morgan’s career at ASTM International spans nearly four decades, beginning in 1984. She played a pivotal role in supervising standards development across several committees, notably the consumer products committee (F15), which was instrumental in the inception of this new award. Rising through the ranks, she became vice president of technical committee operations in 2007, executive vice president in 2015, and president in 2017.
Under her leadership, Morgan has been a trailblazer for women in the standardization field, inspiring many with her commitment to excellence and leadership. The award not only acknowledges her contributions but also aims to inspire female leaders within ASTM committees who significantly impact standards development.
Andy Kireta, the current president of ASTM International, expressed his admiration, stating, “Few people have had such a significant impact on ASTM International as much as Kathie Morgan. She served and subsequently led the organization with distinction and has been a true role model for countless standards professionals throughout her entire career, myself included. It is an honor to present her with this award.”
Morgan announced her retirement in 2023 and was succeeded by Kireta in May, continuing as a special advisor until her recent departure. Her legacy is defined by her dedication to empowering future leaders in the global standards community.
