Ascensus Bolsters Leadership, Welcomes New Head of Small Business Retirement

Ascensus

DRESHER, PA — Ascensus announced the appointment of Mary Torgerson as the new head of Small Business Retirement, effective April 29. With a career spanning two decades in financial services, Torgerson brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record to Ascensus, where she will play a pivotal role in driving growth and innovation within the company’s retirement solutions offerings.

Torgerson will report directly to Ascensus President Nick Good and will become a key member of the Ascensus Retirement line of business leadership team. Her primary focus will be on the Small Business Retirement segment, which caters to sponsors and employers seeking efficient savings solutions for businesses with fewer employees. This area includes Ascensus’ existing CoPilot business, Individual 401(k), Multi-SEP, SIMPLE IRA, and similar plans, which are essential in providing retirement savings options tailored to the needs of small businesses.

Nick Good lauded Torgerson’s appointment, highlighting her exceptional leadership qualities and deep understanding of the small business market. “Mary Torgerson is a proven leader with a strong track record driving revenue growth, product, and business development,” Good stated. He emphasized the timeliness of her arrival, particularly in light of Ascensus’ recent acquisition of the Vanguard business serving Individual 401(k), Multi-SEP, and SIMPLE IRA plans. This acquisition, as Good noted, significantly boosts Ascensus’ market share and momentum in the small business retirement space, making Torgerson’s expertise even more valuable.

Before joining Ascensus, Torgerson made significant contributions to Ubiquity Retirement + Savings, a San Francisco-based provider of 401(k) solutions tailored for small businesses, where she most recently served as Chief Revenue Officer. Her tenure at Ubiquity, spanning 16 years, saw her leading various facets of the business, from product development to operations. Torgerson’s career also includes a stint in business development for Execupay, offering payroll and HR solutions to small and medium-sized enterprises.

With Torgerson at the helm, Ascensus is poised to navigate the complexities of the retirement savings landscape, delivering innovative solutions that meet the evolving needs of small businesses and their employees. This move reflects Ascensus’ broader strategy to expand its footprint in the retirement space, leveraging acquisitions and seasoned leadership to foster growth and better serve its clientele.
