LANCASTER, PA — Armstrong World Industries, Inc. (NYSE: AWI) has unveiled its latest innovation aimed at reducing the environmental impact of buildings: Ultima® Low Embodied Carbon (LEC) ceiling panels. This new product is part of Armstrong’s broader effort to provide sustainable solutions for building owners, architects, and contractors.
Armstrong, a company with a history of product innovation dating back to the 1890s, has made significant strides in developing a product portfolio focused on carbon reduction. Alongside the newly introduced Ultima LEC panels, Armstrong recently launched Ultima® Templok® Energy Saving Ceiling panels. These panels incorporate phase change material to help maintain thermal comfort and reduce heating and cooling costs in buildings, thereby lowering both operational and embodied carbon emissions over a building’s lifecycle.
Ultima LEC panels use sustainable, wood-based biochar technology to achieve a 43% reduction in embodied carbon. Verified by the USDA as 100% biobased, these panels are currently the lowest embodied carbon mineral fiber acoustical ceiling panels available.
“The importance of reducing the environmental impact of buildings continues to rise,” said Vic Grizzle, CEO and President of Armstrong World Industries. “We are committed to bringing products and services to our customers that support decarbonization and circularity throughout the built environment. Both Ultima Templok and Ultima LEC will increasingly be specified by customers because of the growing attention to reducing the environmental impacts of buildings.”
Grizzle highlighted Armstrong’s approach from design to end-of-life product management, providing tools to tackle energy efficiency, material waste, construction efficiency, and embodied carbon. He expressed confidence in the positive impact these products can have in helping building owners, architects, and contractors achieve their sustainability goals.
Armstrong’s introduction of Ultima LEC ceiling panels represents a significant step toward more sustainable building practices, offering innovative solutions to meet the growing demand for environmentally friendly construction materials.
