Aqua Pennsylvania Secures $6.7 Million Grant for PFAS Treatment

Aqua Pennsylvania

BRYN MAWR, PAAqua Pennsylvania has secured a $6.7 million grant from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) to construct a PFAS treatment facility at its Edgely Water Treatment plant in Bristol Township. This funding will enable Aqua Pennsylvania to install the new treatment system at no cost to its customers.

The new facility will serve around 25,000 residents in Bristol Township and Bristol Borough by removing PFAS—a group of harmful chemicals—from their drinking water. Aqua plans to install six 7-foot diameter filter vessels that use ion exchange media to meet regulatory limits for PFAS.

“We’ve been dedicated to testing and removing PFAS from drinking water for years,” said Marc Lucca, President of Aqua Pennsylvania. “This project showcases our commitment to our customers and our efforts to find alternative funding to minimize costs for them.”

Aqua’s Edgely facility, which treats water from nine groundwater wells, was temporarily shut down until the new treatment could be built. During this period, Aqua ensured uninterrupted water service by supplying drinking water from other local sources, particularly the Bristol Water Treatment plant, which draws from the Delaware River.

Construction of the new PFAS treatment facility is set to begin in July.
