BRYN MAWR, PAAqua Pennsylvania has commenced a significant construction project at its Crum Creek Water Treatment Plant in Springfield, a move aimed at ensuring safe and reliable drinking water for the residents of Delaware County. The groundbreaking event, held on Wednesday, saw the participation of Aqua leadership, elected officials, and community leaders.

Marc Lucca, president of Aqua Pennsylvania, highlighted the project’s importance. “Our mission of protecting and providing earth’s most essential resource is exemplified in the proposed improvements to our Crum Creek water treatment plant which will proudly serve customers for generations,” Lucca said. “Every infrastructure investment we make is a strategic step, ensuring a future where safe, reliable drinking water resources are a cornerstone of the communities we serve. We’re proud to continue our longstanding partnership with Springfield and the Delaware County community.”

The Crum Creek project, estimated at $14.3 million, aims to enhance the treatment process to meet regulatory standards and improve water quality. Central to these upgrades is the addition of a new concrete pretreatment sedimentation basin, along with modernizing the mechanical and electrical equipment in the plant’s three existing basins. These enhancements are expected to ensure exemplary treatment of drinking water for decades to come. The project is set to be completed by the end of 2025.

Local officials have lauded Aqua’s commitment to enhancing water services. Dr. Monica Taylor, chairperson of the Delaware County Council, expressed her support, stating, “Today’s groundbreaking showcases Aqua’s commitment to our community – we commend their efforts to improve water quality and the dependability of their service. Efforts to ensure clean access to water are crucial for improving public health, promoting sustainable development, and protecting the environment.”

Megan Cortese, representing the 7th Ward for Springfield Township Board of Commissioners, also praised Aqua’s investment in the community. “I love that not only myself, but Aqua, grew up here in Springfield Township,” Cortese said. “They are investing, they are a wonderful community neighbor to us, and we just couldn’t be more thrilled to be involved in this.”

The Crum Creek Water Treatment Plant upgrade is part of Aqua’s broader initiative to enhance water service and quality across the region, reflecting the company’s ongoing commitment to its customers and the community.
