Apache Uniffle Becomes ASF Top-Level Project

The Apache Software Foundation

WILMINGTON, DEThe Apache Software Foundation (ASF) has announced that Apache Uniffle has officially graduated from incubation to become a Top-Level Project (TLP). This milestone underscores the maturity and broad adoption of Uniffle, a high-performance remote shuffle service designed to optimize distributed computing processes.

Apache Uniffle enhances the efficiency of data shuffle operations by reducing connections, minimizing random I/O, and lowering memory failure risks for large-scale computing tasks. It has already gained significant traction in production environments, with industry leaders such as Tencent, iQiyi, Didi, SF Express, VIPShop, and Bilibili leveraging the service. Today, Uniffle processes petabytes of shuffle data daily and supports tens of thousands of applications.

“We are extremely proud and excited that Uniffle has graduated from incubation and has become an ASF Top-Level Project,” said He Qi, Apache Uniffle PMC Chair. “Uniffle joined ASF’s incubator program in 2022. Since that time, the community and functionality of the software has steadily grown. We are excited to continue innovating to provide efficient and pervasive cloud shuffling services.”

Apache Uniffle is widely compatible with various data processing frameworks, including Apache Hadoop, Apache Spark, and Apache Tez. Its reliable performance and adaptability have made it an essential tool for businesses managing large-scale distributed computing ecosystems.

The graduation to TLP status reflects both the strong community and technical advancements driving Uniffle forward. With this recognition, Apache Uniffle is poised to strengthen its position as a leading solution for efficient data shuffle operations in distributed systems.
