WILMINGTON, DE — The Apache Software Foundation (ASF) recently announced the release of Apache® Wicket™ v10.0, an upgrade to its popular open-source Java framework. Known for allowing developers to build feature-rich websites and applications quickly and with less code, Apache Wicket has been a mainstay in the developer community since 2006.
The new version, Apache Wicket 10.0, brings the framework up to speed with the latest features of Java 17 and the specifications of Jakarta Servlet, making it a stable and mature choice for developers managing large codebases. Its use spans across global organizations like Burger King, CERN, DHL, Facturación Electrónica, ING, Lindenbaum, OneDev, SAP, Stellantis, TVH Group, UK Sciences, and many others.
Andrea Del Bene, Vice President of Apache Wicket and Apache Wicket v10.0 Release Manager, stated, “With the release of Wicket 10, we continue our effort to provide a modern and up-to-date framework for web development.”
Apache Wicket 10.0 comes packed with 20 new features, bug fixes, and improvements while continuing to support the latest Java technologies. Among the key highlights is the introduction of a new module, wicket-tester, which improves Java Platform Module System (JPMS) adoption and contains common classes for unit testing. This module is now a test dependency for users of class WicketTester.
Furthermore, Apache Wicket now includes HTTP2 support within the wicket core module. It also replaces CGLib with ByteBuddy for creating serializable proxies for classes, enhancing efficiency and performance.
Before upgrading to Apache Wicket 10.0, developers need to ensure they have Java 17 and Jakarta Servlet 5. With these prerequisites in place, they can leverage the new capabilities that Wicket 10.0 offers, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in web development. As Apache Wicket continues to evolve, industry watchers will be keenly observing its impact on the web and application development landscape.
