LANGHORNE, PA — The Academy of Oncology Nurse & Patient Navigators (AONN+), in collaboration with Pfizer Oncology, has developed a Precision Medicine Toolkit that was recently recognized by PM360 in its annual Innovations Issue. This issue, now in its twelfth year, identifies the most intriguing advancements across 13 categories within life sciences, healthcare, and marketing.
The Precision Medicine Toolkit, included in the Life Sciences category, is designed to bolster the knowledge base of oncology navigators and equip them to better support patients receiving emerging treatments in the fast-paced field of precision medicine.
Precision medicine, an increasingly critical area of cancer care, often requires oncology nurse and patient navigators to assist newly diagnosed patients navigating genetic and genomic testing that accompanies these innovative treatments. This toolkit empowers navigators to play a more active role in this process.
Monica Dean, AONN+ Director of Patient Navigation Program Development, stated that the 36-page guide offers an understanding of precision medicine and germline and somatic testing. It also outlines how precision medicine might specifically impact the patient population they serve. Furthermore, it aids oncology navigators in identifying patients who require referral to a genetic professional and understanding the referral process.
“We’re so grateful that PM360 recognizes the value of this resource,” said Ms Dean. “We’re truly honored to have it counted among one of the Most Interesting Innovations of 2023.”
PM360’s Innovations Issue, published each December, was the industry’s first-ever guide to the year’s most innovative advancements. Over the years, it has become a premier resource. This year, the issue expanded to cover 13 categories, including Artificial Intelligence, Clinical Trials, and Telehealth/Telemedicine, among others.
Out of hundreds of submissions, PM360’s editorial staff selected 56 innovations for inclusion in the issue. “The innovations we selected are changing how our industry operates to create better ways to develop treatments, run companies, educate physicians, improve diagnosis, and much more to ultimately find better ways to serve patients,” said Anna Stashower, CEO, Publisher, and Editor-in-Chief of PM360.
The full list of this year’s selected innovations is available on PM360’s website.
