PHILADELPHIA, PA — Clarifi, the leading financial empowerment nonprofit serving Philadelphia and the Delaware Valley, has announced Annie Murphy as its new Executive Director, effective February 17, 2025. Murphy steps into the role with over 20 years of nonprofit leadership experience in program operations, fundraising, and strategic development.
Murphy, a Philadelphia resident, brings a deep commitment to advancing economic resilience and housing stability for underserved communities. Her leadership at organizations such as HousingPlus, Hale House Center, and The Doe Fund has produced measurable results, including tripling HousingPlus’s budget in under eight years through program expansion and strategic fundraising.
“Financial resilience and maintaining stable housing are key elements in achieving long-term sustainability, so I’m excited to bring my mission-based background in housing and supportive services to Clarifi,” Murphy stated. “I look forward to working with our dedicated team, board, and community partners to ensure both Clarifi and the people we serve are in strong financial positions to truly thrive.”
Murphy’s alignment with Clarifi’s mission to provide accessible financial guidance resonates through her career of serving women, justice-impacted individuals, and low-to-moderate income families. Her focus on community-driven solutions, financial education, and affordable housing has improved the lives of countless individuals while fostering sustainable systems of support.
Jill Herriott, Board Chair of Clarifi, praised Murphy’s expertise. “We are thrilled to welcome Annie Murphy to Clarifi. Her diverse portfolio of leadership roles equips her with the insight and understanding of an organization’s many functions and needs. As a seasoned executive with a proven track record in nonprofit management and a passion for economic justice, Annie is the ideal person to expand Clarifi’s impact.”
Murphy’s tenure follows Steve Gardner’s leadership, during which Clarifi transitioned from a debt management counseling agency to a financial empowerment nonprofit championing wealth preservation and social service growth. Building on this legacy, Murphy is poised to lead Clarifi into an era of deeper community impact while addressing some of the region’s most pressing challenges in financial stability and housing.
Her appointment marks a pivotal moment for both Clarifi and the neighborhoods it serves. With a focus on expanding resources and leveraging partnerships, Murphy’s leadership is expected to elevate Clarifi’s work in fostering economic empowerment, stability, and opportunity across Philadelphia and beyond.
